A new tradition for the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation begins Saturday, September 12, 2009 with “Member Appreciation Day” at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan.
This is one way for us to say thanks to all our faithful members, while also giving them the opportunity to learn more about what’s in store for the future. With our planned exhibit makeover and expansion set to begin in 2010, our members will be treated to a sneak preview of our plans.
The day will begin at the Interpretive Center with “behind the scenes” tours from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A trip to the lower level archive storage area will reveal portions of the John Fisher Collection to be featured in the new Lewis & Clark Expedition exhibits.
A barbeque beef lunch at the Fort Mandan picnic shelter will include Foundation President David Borlaug and Vice President Wendy Spencer presenting plans for the new exhibits and remodeling of the Center. Musical entertainment and door prizes will add to the noon activities.
After lunch members are invited to step into the Lodge Classroom of the Headwaters Fort Mandan Visitor Center to hear a presentation by board chairman Al Christianson about the coal combustion products used in the construction of this remarkable building. Guided tours of Fort Mandan will also be offered.
Member Appreciation Day is just one example of many free events that are available throughout the year for our members. If you would like to join us for the day and are not a member of the Foundation, you can purchase your membership at the door and enjoy the day with us. We’ll look forward to seeing some new faces along with many familiar ones!
